Orthodontics
What is Orthodontics
It is the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of malpositioned (“skew”) teeth and misaligned bites.
Why Orthodontics
This can be either functional or aesthetic and depends entirely on your unique Molar Bear situation. Functional reasons include a protrusive (larger than normal) jaw and an open bite, among others, whereas aesthetic reasons include crowded teeth as well as gaps between your teeth.
When
Orthodontics has no senior age limit and can be done as early as the age of 6. All your “baby teeth” don’t have to have fallen out for us to begin the process.
Treatment and Options
Conventional process involves the placement of brackets and wire and is the classic “train track” appliance that we are used to seeing. Certain situations warrant the wearing of other appliances to expand the dental arch. Should you be skeptical of other people knowing about your braces, we also offer “Clear” braces and aligners to suit your expectations. Come and visit us to tailor make your solution.
Importance and Myth busting
As much as it is a treatment modality, it is also a prevention tool for the future health of your teeth. Certain bite patterns can lead to future bruxism (teeth grinding), joint pain and also have a major psychosocial influence on a person and their confidence. Treating and correcting your bite can go a long way in preventing these.
It is also important to guide the growth of the jaws from a young age (kids braces) in order to prevent major corrective issues in the future.
We also make Mouth Guards for a range of uses, from prevention of grinding to protection of the teeth during contact sports
